Ahhh, bacon. An American breakfast staple, this dish often needs nothing to stand out at the table. But there is always a way to level up, and bacon is no different. These candied bacon recipes use Droscha Sugarbush Maple Syrup and Maple Sugar to make a dressed-up version of one of the most beloved breakfast dishes.
Candied bacon can be made in a few different ways. Here, we are going to make it two ways: candied bacon twists and candied bacon strips. Both recipes produce a sweet and salty treat you crave on Sunday mornings.
For each recipe, the bacon is roasted in a cold oven, cooking slowly and evenly with the oven, eventually reaching 400 degrees. This helps keep the bacon flat and results in less shrinking. Watch your bacon carefully- it can go from underdone to overdone quickly.
Candied Bacon Twists
These twists are a slightly sweet take on candied bacon, adding a subtle maple flavor and mixing with the lovely salty smokiness of the bacon. The key is to sprinkle the bacon with the maple sugar and then twist it, so the sugar-coated side is inside the twist. When the bacon cooks, the sugar melts and mixes with the bacon’s juices, creating a delicious salty-sweet mixture in the middle.
